David

David joined British Rail in 1977 at Reading General as a Passenger Guard he entered the signalling grades not long after, starting at Acton West SB & worked his way to Reading PSB via Acton East SB & Slough PSB. In 1990 he departed Reading after 10 good & interesting years to take up the GP Supervisors post at Gloucester PSB, covering the Panel Supervisors post & also the Area Signalling Inspectors at Gloucester & Hereford.

In 1992 David became the Senior Movements Inspector for Inter-City Midland Cross-Country covering the Gloucester & Saltley PSB areas with added responsibility for the Oxford, Banbury & Leamington Spa areas when required. There was a lot of miles on the clock in those four years !!! When the railways got privatised a change was due & therefore David was off to be a Relief Manager in the Railtrack Control office in Swindon.

After two years in Swindon, Railfreight Distribution based in Enterprise House in Paddington looked an interesting prospect after the opening of the Channel Tunnel, so in 1996 he became a regular commuter on Brunels billiard table & learnt a lot about just how "interesting" working with our SNCF colleagues on the other side of the tunnel could be. When EWS was formed from the three main freight companies it was not going to be long before RFD was brought or indeed bought into the fold, so another move took place in 1998 from Paddington to Doncaster working on various Control & operations desks in the new Customer Service Delivery Centre.

In 2003 David left Doncaster to become the Service Delivery Manager for Devon & Cornwall based in St Blazey & after his sojourn in the far west he returned to Doncaster where he is now a Shift Control Manager in the CSDC with the responsibility for all the train running & Control Management issues on a shift basis.

"Its been a very interesting 28 years but I still sometimes wonder where the time went !!"
