Andy

Andy joined British Rail's former Southern Region in 1977. Initially employed as a trainee Shunter at Norwood Yard, he applied for a Guards position and was sent to Guards school instead. Andy transferred to Brighton Guards Depot about a year later, remaining there until 1983. Things were changing in the guards Grades at that time, so Andy decided to move into the signalling grades, but with the vast amount of signalmen displaced by the Victoria and Three Bridges resignalling schemes there were no places available locally. A move to the Midland Region enabled him to get his first signalling post at Wellingborough station.

Andy stayed at Wellingborough as a Relief signalman until the commissioning of Leicester PSB in 1987 saw the closure of the signal boxes in that area. Andy moved briefly to Banbury, where a boundary change placed Banbury back onto the Western Region. He was then able to apply for a post at Reading PSB, where he moved in 1988. Andy remained a signalman at Reading until promoted to Relief Panel Supervisor in 1992.

In 1995 Andy was appointed as Signalling Manager Waterloo, then in 1998 he became Signalling Manager at London Bridge. In 2002 Andy was appointed to Area Signalling Manager Kent, and is currently the South East Territory Signalling Inspector for Kent.
