Les joined British Rail in August 1985 as a Junior Railman, working at Twyford, Didcot, Newbury and Reading. He spent a total of 4 years at Reading PSB, acheiving the grade of Technician Officer. Les left Reading in 1995 for the Signalling Fault Control at Swindon, where he still resides.
