Disused Station - Closed Railway Stations In The UK
People have always had a fascination with disused railway lines and stations.
Following the opening of the first railway lines in the 1820’s, stations have
been closing; many in the last century because they were resited to a more
suitable location. This is particularly true in London where many of the London
termini were originally built some distance short of their present site.

Lambourn Valley
Railway
The LVR line became operational on the 2nd of April 1898. It ran as an
Independent Company through until 1905 after which time, it came under the wing
of the The GWR. 1948 saw further change when it became part of British Railways,
with whom it stayed until its final closure in 1973 The Line itself was just
over twelve miles in length and the journey from Newbury Station to Lambourn
took approximately forty minutes.
Memories of Coley Park - The Railway at Southcote Junction
Always an added attraction for residents was the nearby railway at Southcote
Junction. The line from Reading splits at the junction with one line heading
south towards Basingstoke, and the other west towards Newbury and beyond.
My Railway
Memories
Welcome to my website. My name is Spencer Jackson. I have been interested
in steam railways, for as long as I can remember. I spent many hours train
spotting from about 1952-55,
then took an interest in railway signalling, visiting 23 signal boxes. I worked
for British Railways from September 1958 to June 1963, starting in Kidsgrove
Booking Office (6 miles north of Stoke-on-Trent), and finishing as Goods Guards
Clerk at Brent (Cricklewood, north-west London).

The Signal
Box
This web site is all about railway signalling. Its primary purpose is to
describe the principles behind railway signalling in Great Britain, but some
coverage of signalling around the world will also be found. The emphasis is on
the older, mechanical signalling - that worked by mechanical levers and with
semaphore signals. More detailed information on modern and foreign signalling
will often be found elsewhere on the web.

Box
