Rick joined British Rail in 1972 as a trainee Technician. Rick worked as a faulting and maintenance technician at Slough before promotion to Technician Officer at Didcot. He then moved to Reading as a Technician Officer Grade 4 responsible for maintenance and fault finding on the signalling system.
